About Birdie
I’m a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (#LGP13487) in Maryland and a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist. I work with people of all ages experiencing stress and anxiety, learning challenges, and life changes.
I offer psychotherapy for anxiety, intervention for learning disorders, and pilates for wellbeing.
I hold a MEd from the University of Virginia in Counselor Education where my work focused on college students and middle school girls. I have also earned a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and a PhD in Dance Studies from The Ohio State University.
I have worked at colleges, universities, and K12 independent and international schools as a dance professor and as a learning specialist. For nine years, I directed a psychoeducational-arts nonprofit organization and in that time I created the framework that still guides my work: Action, Support, Curiosity, Challenge, and Resilience. These vectors with thinking, feeling, and moving dimensions can help us shape our way through the world.
My therapeutic style is active, supportive, and curious. In psychotherapy, I bring empathy, curiosity, and patience while also offering techniques for mindful breath and movement.
In educational interventions, I am extremely supportive and encouraging. As an interventionist, I see my charge as to improve literacy skills while also improving self-confidence and self-awareness.
I tailor somatics and Pilates work to each client. I am fascinated by bodies and the physical experience of being. With gratitude, we focus on strength, alignment, flexibility, and proprioception.
